We arrived in Dubrovnik on a sunny morning. After stepping out of the airport, we immediately knew that we would love it. The drive from the airport to the old town was scenic and the sea looked calm and clear. Driving into the old town felt like a dream, like we had gone back in time to the 16th century. The one downside was when we got off the airport shuttle, we were bombarded by sales people selling all sorts of excursions, from kayaking to game of thrones tours. We didn’t have accommodation booked because we couldn’t figure out which area to stay in. We left our bags at a luggage place and decided to explore the city. We walked for a bit, found a pizzeria along the way, and ended up in Lapad. We didn’t know what the area was called but we liked it. Away from the crowds with restaurants close by and a beach not too far. We somehow managed to find a lovely apartment within budget thanks to booking.com.
We wandered around the old town for most of the one day. It is incredible how the Game of Thrones series has increased the popularity of the old town. There are hordes of tourists everywhere and GoT tours running back to back.
Even with all that you still find quiet and beautiful alleyways to explore…
There was a summer season opening party at the Gundulic square on the one evening and we partied till the morning.
The rest of the time was spent enjoying the lovely beaches and watching beautiful sunsets. We went on some tough but very beautiful runs along the Śetnica walking trail in the evenings and the views were spectacular.
